Colours

I know that you have all seen my yarny rainbow in my last post as day 31 of Project 365 but I like it (and it’s my blog!) so I’m going to use it again today. It is quite fitting for today’s post as well, if further justification is needed. Ahh… yarny colourful goodness! The sky is soooo grey and boring here today, and frankly I’d rather look at yarn. And think about colour.

I love rainbow colours when I choose my yarn, and I love seeing bright rainbow colours for everyday things. But when it comes to choosing a narrower pallette, I do struggle. I love greens and blues mostly, seasidey blues and greens, plant-y greens and blues. Me and Andy have been talking a lot about colours and colour schemes today, but I’m not really feeling very inspired. So I sort of need to ask your help, if that’s ok?

Tell me, what are your favourite colours? If you had to choose say, 3 or 4 colours that go well together, what would you choose? And more specifically, what sort of colours do you like to see on a website? And indeed, are there colours that put you off using a website?

Your help with this is much appreciated - I’m really struggling with this! Thank you so much in advance :)

Lots of love, Heather xxx

  • Colour schemes… well it really depends what it’s for I guess. If you’re talking colours for a website, then it’s really up to you but I’d stay away from really bright colours and yellow, especially as a font (who wants to squint at their screens reading?!). One thing I find most annoying is when people change their font colour but not the background, so you end up having to highlight the text in order to read it!! Argh!! And the other day I was left with a headache after reading a blog that had a black background and white text, it just made my eyes go all funny! Anyway, rant over! Sets of three colours that go well together (according to me anyway) would be pink/ purple/ blue, blues and purples, orange/ red/ brown (think autumny colours), turquoise and light grey… I don’t know if this’ll help in any way but it definitely got me thinking!! x

  • What a beautiful blog you’ve got here!
Your afghan is lovely. Those colors positively dance.
My favorite colors? Hmm, all of them?

  • I\’d have to say pinks to lavender. But with a \’kicker\’ color - hmmm, aqua - - -
    Love your granny afghan.

Hi there - I’ve just found you via Lucy….and have written out your recipe…I have a similar one but this sounds so much better. Thanks for sharing it.
As for colours I so agree with Gerry….but honestly if things are co-ordinated I like most things.

I have written out your rainbow list…..thank you for that too…it speaks volumes to me. I am a calligrapher and colour does matter and I also so agree with Petit Filoux….backgrounds which confuse I hate….if folk would stick to black text on white and leave it at that….some of the queer combinations are unreadable and I just move on.

I don’t think you have anything to learn about putting colours together. You and Lucy both!!
    Kind regards from Northern Ireland.
