December

Overnight, Winter has arrived. I’ve never noticed it arrive smack bang on December the first before, but last night was SooOOOooo cold that I needed socks AND a hot water bottle, and sure enough we awoke to thick frost this morning. It has been a beautiful, clear day today and the trees have finally been stripped bare of their leaves after the battering they took in the wind and the rain over the weekend. Winter is Here.

The first day of December also means Advent Calendars. I always have an advent calendar, I don’t believe that you can be too old for one. What’s not to love about them? I’ve never had chocolate ones, because I much prefer the ones that are “just” pictures. This year I have a Quentin Blake one, and today’s picture is a robin on some snow holding a sprig of holly.

A little more festive than Cadbury’s or Hannah Montana!

Now, I have been to John Lewis a couple of times in the past month and each time the staff have failed to give me a pretty blue snowy bag, much to my disappointment. Everyone else got one! But today, finally I was given a pretty blue snowy bag, hurrah. It’s December, I want Christmassy bags now!

And what is in my bag? Well, probably not as much as you were expecting. It was only a short trip and I need to do a little more planning of my Next Project before I can buy lots and lots and lots of yarn.

I bought pretty birthday cards for friends with upcoming birthdays (Quentin Blake again, I know! What can I say, he’s ace.)

A little Handknit Cotton to assist in the art of Christmas decoration making. This will join my meagre little stash of six balls (below)

I sneaked into Paperchase for these sweet Christmas Jellycat softies, who were reduced from £8 each to £2. I was unable to resist, which is what usually happens when confronted with Jellycat.

Finally I bought a little top up for my circles to squares blanket, which looks like this

I’ve also become a little starry eyed, and am going shopping for spray starch on Friday to make them stay pointy. I had a little go at blocking, which was fun :-)

All in all, not a bad day. I’m off to make some bread now, which is not so good as I’m not really very good at making bread, especially with the added pressure of “I need this for school lunches tomorrow Heather”. eek!

Wish me luck! x x x x x x x x

I love making bread but it can be such a long process, waiting for it to rise etc i am so impatient, so i do not make it that often.

All the wool you brought looks fantastic!
