Sweet Progress

If you have looked at my Flickr in the last couple of days you will have noticed that I have not only completed all 12 big squares for the Granny Alice blanket, but I have joined them all too. Hurrah! The joining part is so exciting, and so speedy with the join as you go method (thank you Lucy).

The squares are 18 rounds and then the joining round makes 19. I suppose 20 would be a more even number, but 18 felt like enough when I was making them.

Do you not think that being able to fold a blanket that you have been making in sections is just THE most delicious thing? Lovely. I take great delight in being able to do this!

I also LOVE that you can use the scraps from making big blankets to plant the seeds to grow your next blanket. These are all from using the leftovers from the Granny Alice and I’m intending to continue this just as and when, rather than a full blown project. Well, that’s the plan anyway, but you know me … !

  • holy moly, super jealous of your speedy work, is that the chunky wool you were talking about, im all about the chunky at the moment, i go into work every day with something different on my needles lol, i have started my mittens but doing knitted ones lol. miss ya xx

  • What a fantastic blanket, I love it !!!

  • I love it <3

TOTALLY know what you mean on the folding, too. I love having a big, thick squashy wad of continuous blanket to squeeze. Been doing it with BGB even thought it’s still only some kind of crazy L shape!

  • Hi, this blanket very beautifull. Congratulations!
    come here my blog http://derya-kuzusu.blogspot.com/

I’d love to know what yarn, and more importantly, what COLORS you used! The combination is truly exquisite. I agree with you about joining as you go – SO much less daunting to do a project in squares!! I’ve been doing them that way for a few months now, and doubt I’ll ever go back.

  • I saw your pictures on Flickr, and now I”ve found your blog! Your blanket is gorgeous :-)

    Hello!
I used Rowan Pure Wool DK in the following colours:
    032 Gilt
    036 Kiss
    040 Tangerine
026 Hyacinth (only a tiny amount in the centres, left over from my previous blanket.)
    042 Dahlia
    028 Raspberry
    027 Hydrangea
    039 Lavender
    008 Marine
009 Ultra marine (just twice, because I felt it was too dark. I wouldn’t use it if I was making this blanket again.)
    006 Pier
007 Cypress (this is what the edging is as well.)
    019 Avocado

hope this helps! You can find a shadecard here: http://www.mcadirect.com/shop/rowan-pure-wool-dk-p-1231.html

Hope you enjoy my blog :)

This afghan is gorgeous. Can you explain how you joined them with cypress? I don’t know how/what that is, but absolutely love it!

This blanket is wonderful! I am planning on making it as a gift for my brother’s wedding. Could you tell me how many balls of wool you used? I was thinking of going with 10 colours and was wondering how many of each I would need.
    Thanks :)

Hi Carol, I’m afraid I can’t really remember as it was such a long time ago and I used up yarn from another project so didn’t start with full balls. I just buy more yarn as I go along usually rather than buying it all in one go.

What a beautiful blanket! i really want to start one myself, but i don’t see how you connect the big squares to each other. Can you help me with this?

  • Heather

Hi Eileen, I used the join as you go method which you can see here: http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/joining-asyougo-sqaures.html
