Ahh the Happy Hexagon Blanket … you all seem to love it far more than I do! I have to say though, that now it is all joined I love it more. The main reason for this is that it is no longer a half-joined thorn in my side. It’s been sitting around for so long that it blocked up all my creative energy. Now it is all joined though, I feel much more free and creative – always a good thing. I still need to:
- make half hexagons for the sides
- put a border around it. I am going to do one round of red clusters, and then one round of red TRs in each stitch. Then, the next round will be a different colour, then red again. I’ll repeat this until I have about 4 or 5 of the different coloured rounds. (Best laid plans, but it will probably be until I get bored.) Then, some kind of edging: possibly the one I used on the Rosie Ripple, but possibly just a round of HTRs in a contrasting colour. Not sure yet.
- tie and trim all the ends.
I hate ends.
Anyway, here is a pic of it in all it’s joined up glory. It is quite striking, but I think that it might not be a bed blanket after all as it’s so busy. Perhaps it can be a spare room blanket, or go on the sofa at such time as we get a sofa.

I love that blanket. Your plans sound beautiful. Can you explain what you do to the ends. Do you do something other than weave them in? I hate the ends too.

I crochet over my ends as I go – it’s not the most effective way because with time they do poke through, but when it is just a blanket for me I am not too fussy. I don’t trim them as I go though, so I have to trim them all. Then, there are LOTS of ends from when I’ve joined the hexagons as it’s not practical to crochet over them. In these cases, I weave them in with a needle. I’m not sure why I said tie, I meant weave and trim.

It’s a lovely bright blanket, it looks nice on your blue duvet. I’m almost finished my 2nd crochet blanket, just weaving in the ends so it should be done soon…
You should be really proud of that blanket. I promise not to mention the winter again until we are in that season but it will be really

Stunning Heather, I quite like it on your bed, but I would like it on the sofa too. I am chugging along on my edge, one more round, then the scallop and it’s done. I can then get on a finish a couple of other things on the go.

Oh ends are the pits but I was very disciplined and sewed in after around every ten color changes, didn’t feel so bad then, and they do tend to poke out don’t they!

I have just finished a hexagon blanket and I was calling it my “happy blanket” as well, I usually knit and crochet in muted tones, but fancied a bit of colour this time, and every time I looked at those gorgeous bright colours they made me smile. Unfortuntely Ian has banished it from the lounge – hes not a bright colour person at all! x

Aah, it is beautiful, well done…but you won’t need it on the bed for the next few nights…it is so warm and clammy hereabouts and I think your neck of the woods is to be even hotter…but come September and October you will be needing this beautiful, colourful blankie.

I also hate ends, and I’m relatively new to crochet, so I can’t imagine how much more you hate them after having to deal with so many more. I don’t know anyone who enjoys weaving the ends on. I’m struggling wanting to weave the ends in on my crochet cushion, so much so it’s ground a halt, so I’m sure a blanket is extrememly tedious. BUT, realising I’m being slightly negative, and I’m sure a boost will be much more helpful in motivating you to finish, it looks GORGEOUS and will be STUNNING once you’ve finished and will be well worth all the hard work!!!! x
