Blooming
The flowers on my windowsill are just going over now (literally in the case of the floppy orange tulips!) but this week they have brought so much colour to my room. They’re beautiful. The white tulips were £1 in the supermarket and I bought them on a whim, lopped the stalks off them and stuck them in a jam jar next to my bed. I don’t usually put flowers there as I worry I’ll knock them over in the night but they’ve been fine and a lovely thing to wake up to. I like to buy flowers in January as a “treat” for putting up with all the grey, miserable weather and it makes me smile to think that Spring is on the way.
Here’s hoping we reach Spring without any snow. (Sorry Lucy, I know your little people want to go sledging but I am feeling decidedly anti-snow!)

I’m right with you Heather. Bring on the colours of spring and let’s just skip the snow ! I really love your orange tulips – what an intense happy colour. Thank you for sharing them with me. xx
Oh my. Your flowers are gorgeous!! Never mind the floppy tulips – if they were in my house I’d keep them for at least another week. Tie them together with a bit of ribbon to stop them flopping cos with a colour like that they deserve to be around forever!!! lol x
Hi Heather
I to HAVE to treat myself to flowers in january ad thee are some cheap and cheerful ones out there which always helps xox Here’s to the sunny sun-shine and spring time looming in the near future x
Hi Heather, I love your spring flowers …..necessary in grey old January. I love all your spotty /stripy jugs and bowls too. Just perfect.
I’ve been making a stripy tin over inspired by Lucy…will hopefully blog later today .
Thanks for sharing
Jacquie x
A little colour is so welcome on these dark dreary days, beautiful selection.
*swoon*…flowers! They look fabulous on your windowsill.
Hi Heather, love your springtime floral arrangements, I too have surrounded myself with daf’s and tulips. I sooo love the white tulips where did you get them from ?
Hopefully see you tomorrow Tracy xx
Love your flowers. Bought little pots of snowdrops yesterday and arranged them today then saw Lucy’s idea but have to eat the contents
of chosen tin first!! Have a good week.xx
Flowers do have the power to cheer don’t they. And I totally agree with you about skipping snow.
A few flowers can do wonders for your mood can’t they? Sorry, but I’m with the Attic 24 clan… bring on the snow! :)x
What pretty flowers which brighten up this dull time of year. I haven’t seen any daffodils here in the North West yet.
I am just about to do a stripey blanket but wonder if you can tell me how you deal with changing yarns when you have more than two, as you go up the side, rather than having to sew up. I know with two colours you can carry up the side but am not sure about more than that. Maybe it is just simpler to darn in afterwards?
I’m hoping that as I’ve spent a lot of money buying a car cover for my classic Beetle, it has warded off the snow! Ha! Believe that hopefully.
Delighted to see you back again…I thought you surely must be suffering from flu like myself but no, glad you’ve missed it…I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy (but I don’t have any, I trust). Lovely blooms. No, we don’t want snow…just more mild weather leading us gently into Spring warmth.
well the first year we lived here we had snow on Easter Sunday in March, so there’s plenty of time yet for some fluffy white stuff. Besides heather, you’ve got yer gorgeous Snow Boots to wear, cummon, that has to be a reason to want a little smattering of snow?!
Your flowers look gorgeous, money well spent. Food for the soul, especially welcome in January. What a shame you don’t do hyacinths, they are fabulous value for money. I’ve got white ones coming in to flower, and I seem to remember that they don’t smell as strong as the coloured ones, worth a try maybe?
Sending love heather, see you at the pub later?!

Tulips are one of my favorite flowers!! I read a tip recently about how to keep them from flopping over, but I haven’t tried it out! The tip said that tulips are one of the few flowers that continue to grow once they are cut, so for some reason air bubbles can develop in the stems. To alleviate this, take a pin and pierce the stem through just below the bloom. Might be worth a try?
gorgeous flowers
Hi Heather, love the springtime floral arrangements, you were missed last night I will hopefully see you soon.
Take care Tracy xx
Your flowers look lovely, a cheerful feast at this dull time of year.
I could just see Jane Brocket’s knitting book in your photo and I have to say that book is fantastic. I lent it from the library to see if it was any good and ended up renewing it four time (I’m surprised they didn’t ask for it back!). Such a wonderfully woolly book with great patterns.
