Saturday Errands

Saturday’s weather was thankfully as sunny as Friday’s weather, although a LOT colder. Saturday is the day I Get Things Done in town and I had some Heather-friendly errands to run today.

First off, I needed a ball of yarn:

and then I paid two cheques into my bank account. I loooove doing that.

The Flower Man was back on the market for the first Saturday in ages. I’ve been trying to buy some flowers from him for weeks but he hasn’t been there. Today = Success! in the form of orange tulips.

Buying flowers makes me happy happy happy in a way that I never thought it would do when I was younger.

After flower-buying I bought massive peppers and a bunch of bananas from the fruit & veg stall. I’m a bit hit and miss with bananas but I’m trying to eat more fruit so I’m giving them another go.

We needed milk and bread, so I went to M&S food for those. It’s in town so I don’t have to walk all the way to the supermarket. I generally only buy things from there that are the same price as they would be in the supermarket because it is beyond my budget really. They had daffodils for £1 so I snapped up a bunch of those as well. First daffs of the year for my house!

I walked home the back way and stopped to look at the buildings because they looked pretty against the sky. They are backs of shops now but I imagine they would have been lovely to live in as houses.

Did I mention that it was VERY COLD? This was taken at midday and still there was frost on everything. I have been wearing my woolly reindeer tunic today (and subsequently have not received one hug from Andy, who hates wool.)

After lunch I took some photos of my blankets in our bedroom. The light was rubbish! I had to trick my camera into getting the colours right by using the snow setting, would you believe.

This makes me chuckle … can you guess which side is mine, and which is Andy’s?

It’s a tough one to guess I know!

  • I am so jealous that you can just walk into a shop and choose from all those Stylecraft colours :) Once again you have such a good eye for capturing a moment with your camera…maybe it could be a fiture career!!!

  • Lovely blue sky. We had that weather here yesterday in Hamburg. Only today it’s rather cloudy again.
I don’t love bananas either, but I think they go spiffing with weetabix or porridge. My hubby treats me once in a while by melting butter and sugar in a frying pan, adding a couple of bananas, caramelising the lot and then when it’s really hot pouring over some vodka or something! Phew, that’s the way to eat bananas!

Aah, I am so jealous that you can just walk into your LYS and find Stylecraft, ordering online doesn’t always turn out well colourwise (I specifically recall a very nasty, poisonous and scary shade of green jumping out of the post box)! Love the blue skies, and the tulips of course. I’m very curious to see some ripple progress up close! :-) xxxx

  • Adorable, divine, scrumptious tulips! It’s seeing pictures like these that makes me regret taking a pledge not to but flowers for a whole year. No, I’m not that mad, the idea is that you grow your own or pick what grows wild instead. It’s fun but I long for some tulips and we didn’t plant any back in October. Do you think buying one bunch would be cheating?

  • I’VE TOTALLY BEEN IN THAT SHOP WHERE ALL THE STYLECRAFT IS!

    I’m the winner.

  • Lovely yarn and flowers
I couldn’t possibly guess which was your side ;)

  • Wow – your local yarn store looks amazing. I haven’t managed to find anywhere not online where I can order stylecraft special so I am v jealous!
I’m also slightly stunned at the revalation your husband doesn’t like wool. And you spend lots of your time making things from wool! He must struggle with all those blankets you make!!
    Lovely pics :o)

  • You have far more Stylecraft choice in your local than me! A very usual thing to have so close by.
I love the fact that there are even different pillow covers on the bed!

  • Hello Heather,
Like your pictures and your view on everything!
I loved your bed pictures; made me smile!
    Kind regards from Mirjam.

  • Hi Heather, loved your dream :0) I would indeed be very happy to look like a pip studio cup….so pretty …I’m toying with the idea of spluging on a pip studio bowl at the moment .
I’m so jealous of all that stylecraft …you are so lucky to have it on your doorstep . Would you believe there are no stockists in my big city .
Your town is looking so pretty in the winter sunshine and I love your tulips too.

I think Andy’s is the left side of the bed (looking from the bottom!) You sound much more positive Heather, good weather and, hopefully, renovations coming along at more of a clip. House upside down = misery, especially when it seems to last forever. It will be more than worth it in the end though, just hang in there and keep your little corner as a haven and now that the flower man is back, it will be easier – speaking from experience of both house renovations, little corner haven and flowers – oh, and a glass of wine or two helps now and again!

Sorry Heather, my last message left my name as Lix T – one two many glasses of wine for me maybe as it was my mistake. Enjoy reading your blog and have found your tutorials grand.

    Andy NEEDS a doily!!!

  • I am totally with you about the flower thing. And I love those orange tulips!

  • Heather I truly believe you have the best blog arround. Your side of the bed just looks lived in. Your the greatest Heather you really are. Keep up the good work. Tell Stylecraft to send about a plane load of yarn over to us!

  • I wonder how many crafters/crocheting women have beds like that? Colourful and full of lovely things on the girlie side and sensible and simple on the boys side (I do!) Love your blog. It always makes me want to go to head up north and walk absolutely everywhere..it is so different to here – jealous!x

  • I love that last picture. Our sofa looks very similar! Andrew’s side has the remote controls and a laptop or some other gadget. Mine has mountains of knitting, crochet and sewing stuff!!!

  • Anne Marie

Down the side of my bed I have: two vintage knitting books (you know the 1920s type), one sock in progress on a tiny circular needle, two Barbara Pym novels, The Odessa File, The Sea Ahead and two German novels! That’s quite a wide range. Oh, also there is my laptop stuffed down between bedside cabinet and bed and a radio. Looks very untidy!

I really WANT a cat like yours, to perch somewhere. As usual, photographs wonderful. We have Black Sheep Wool warehouse nearby but I’d love to know where your woolshop is for if Im about travelling.

  • Hi Heather,

I found your blog a few weeks ago and learned of Rowan yarn after looking through all of your projects. I would love to try it out, but live in Australia so I’m trying to work out where it’s cheapest to get from. Which website do you order it online from? I thought that if you order it from the cheapest place for you, I would compare their international shipping price with the two places I get get it from Australia.

Thank you for your blog – it has given me many happy hours of reading :-)

    Emma
