It’s been a long while since I bought my Rico Creative Cotton. It took me a long time to find a project which I felt showed off the colour range to it’s best. I settled on simple stripes in a sort of rainbow order. The project? A cushion for Andy. Andy hates the feel of wool, or anything fibrous like that, but he DOES like cotton. Cotton/bamboo mix is also acceptable, and also Rialto is apparently ok too. Expensive tastes or what!
That photo made it onto Explore on Flickr, by the way, something that made me jump up and down and grin with excitement. I saved the link and emailed it to all my family (who weren’t bothered.)
I worked in straight rows using UK htr (half treble) stitch. I think I’m going to photograph a tutorial of how I work in straight lines as I’ve had a few questions about it and honestly, it took me an embarrassingly long time to be able to crochet in a straight line that I feel I should help people if I can. Wonky sides are very frustrating.
Along the sides I worked two htr stitches into the side of every other stitch. If you look at the photo above, you’ll see what I mean. I then worked 3 (not sure if it was trebles or half trebles actually) half trebles/or trebles into the spaces of those clusters, like you would in a granny stripe. I didn’t make chain spaces between the clusters of 3 stitches.
I made sure that I did the same on both edges of the crochet, and exactly the same (including obsessive counting of stitches) on the other side of the cushion cover.
I joined the two sides leaving a deliberate ridge on the outside by joining using the back loops only while holding the crochet wrong sides together. The cushion I used is a feather one so it’s nice and sturdy.
I’m really happy with how it turned out and am tempted to make another one using the same yarn but a different colour combination. I’m stocking all my crochet cushions up in the spare room, just waiting for the far off, shiny happy day when we buy sofas for our completed living room :-)
Oh … and it looks rather smart with the hexagon blanket … which is good.

Love this cushion-it is gorgeous and I would think that anyone would be thrilled to receive it!! Debby.x
ooooh I love it! I love rainbows. I have pinned one of your pics to my rainbow pinboard! (http://pinterest.com/katieinnz/rainbows/)
Your cusion is gorgeous!!
that’s really nice – such fab colours. Great photos too. X
Oooh I’m feeling the love here. This half treble stitch is something I always forget about. Was thinking of making a little mobile phone pouch and Htr might be the way forward.
I might be being dense here but have you worked between the stitches of the previous row rather than out of them? Does that sentence even make sense?!
LOVE IT!!!! Just gorgeous. And congrats on the flickr fame :-)
The stripes on the cushion look wonderful. I love the colour combination you used. Love the close ups too!
Lovely photos, lovely cushion! I really like the second photo :)
That’s lovely Heather.

Stunning cushion and amazing pictures! Well done! :-)
Huzzah on the Flickr Explore picture. Very well done indeed! I got excited the other day as my knitted cardy got used as a featured photo on Ravelry, and yours is bigger than that, so you must be over the moon. I love the colours on the cushion, that rainbow effect never fails to lift a little and make me feel happy.
I just received my little parcel of Rico, lush, lush colors, I am crocheting an apple cosy in purple for my daughter, it splits a lot tho’ but all is forgiven. Your cushion is gorgeous and yes it certainly looks great with your hexi.

Thank you for your lovely comments x
I my…that is just bursting with color. I am putting together my yarns so that I could begin a hexagon afghan for my bed.
Thank you for the inspiration :)
Be blessed,
Maria
Beautiful cushion. Please do post a tutorial on keeping straight edges – I really need it.
Gorgeous happy cushion! Love the photos too x
It’s just like a rainbow. I love the way you have selected your colours – it’s like they have been blended on a paint palette. Stunning!

Sorry I must have scrolled down to far and have left comment for this post on your last post! Enjoy weekend. xx
Hello! Just discovered your lovely blog and I’m so glad I have – it’s a feast of crocheted loveliness. Love the hexie blanket – am now thinking that maybe I could make a huge granny hexagon and turn it into a cushion for a soon-to-be-restored child’s chair I have…hmmmm….

Love the cushion!!
You have the same Cath bedding as us (except we only have the duvet cover as I got it from TKMaxx and they didn’t have the pillowcases so I do the mix and match thing!!)

Great cushion, cotton is so nice!
Superb. I loves it I do! Don’t we just forgive Rico it’s splittiness because it is so lovely and colourful.
I’ve spotted that you and my Little Cuckoo have the exact same bedlinen. The blue cotton not the floral. John Lewis, yes? Pale blue on one side and darker on the other? What fabulous taste we have ;oD

Hi! I just loved this work if you could send me the pattern by email i would love it , i am a beginner and i live im são Paulo, Brasil
Tks a lot
Did you crochet this in the same way you did TTB’s pram blanket? Or did you turn your work? Just about to start a stripe blanket and I really love the way your work looks when you don’t turn it and would love to know if you managed to get it not-slanty. (I have a small baby & toddler, so understand if you don’t get the time to explain!) xx
